Directions Research seeks a Senior Database Developer to assist with designing and implementing an enterprise scale data management solution. As a Senior Database Developer, you will work closely with business analytics to realize senior management's vision to empower employees with technology and to create a data centric enterprise.

 Primary Responsibilities:

  • Translate business processes and requirements into conceptual, logical and physical data models.
  • Actively participate in all phases of the development lifecycle including requirements gathering, process flow analysis, database design, support documentation, performance and tuning, and production implementation
  • Design extraction, translation and loading (ETL) procedures that encompass multiple data streams from both structured and unstructured data streams.
  • Create, modify and test various SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and triggers to make data consumable by a diverse set of systems
  • Collaborate with team members across functions (e.g., data science, research analyst, data analyst) and assist with their data-related requests
  • Ensure data integrity is maintained across projects; mine and analyze data as needed to perform quality reviews
  • Evaluate performance and identify ways to optimize and tune the system
  • Investigate and address production issues as needed; perform root cause analysis
  • Research new technologies, tools, and platforms and identify practical ways these can add value

 Required Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of fundamental relational database design and data warehouse best practices
  • Expertise in creating database objects and structures including tables, indexes, views, snapshots, stored procedures, triggers, and functions
  • Hands-on technical knowledge of data modeling, ETL, and SQL query performance tuning
  • Advanced SQL query writing skills (e.g., complex joins, subqueries)
  • Possess a strong sense of ownership and positive "can do" attitude
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or related degree

Nice to Have Skills:

  • Experience with cloud services and architecture (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Programming in R, JavaScript, and/or SPSS
  • Experience with Agile
